Collection of Doodles

It's been a very long time since I've posted anything here, but I want to start sharing my projects more regularly.

To begin, I've collected some doodles I've done in the past. Some are fairly old while at least one is more recent.

These drawings are usually done while in meetings or on phone calls. The process of putting strokes on paper can be quite meditative, so rather than being distracting, the doodles help me concentrate on the conversation.

I honestly haven't done that many lately, but I really enjoy looking back at these.

You Know I Love Rainbows, Right?!

Today I decided to color match all my solids to the Kona solids swatch card. And then arrange them in the same order as the swatch card. And then marvel at the beauty of this fabric rainbow. 

Now what?

I don't want to mess it up. 

Between the Lines

One of my first modern quilt fabric purchases was a layer cake of Simply Color by V and Co. I loved all the bright colors and the way the geometrics (diamonds and dotted zig zags) were balanced with organic shapes (sprigs, leafy stripe, mod blossoms).

It took quite a while for me to decide what to do with these fabrics, but one day I was going through my Bloglovin' feeds and Anne at Play Crafts showed the beginning stages of her Macaron quilt.

This idea stuck with me, and I finally pulled together an idea for my own quilt, Between the Lines.

Down the middle of each square in the layer cake, I ran a stripe of a coordinating solid, bordered by white. I quilted wavy lines in a soft grey across the quilt in the printed areas. Then in white, I stitched in the ditch on both sides of the white strips.

I had to get creative on the back because I was a little short in yardage of the grey leafy stripe. I decided to mimic the stripes in the blocks on the front by making a multi-colored stripe bordered by white. 

I decided on a scrappy binding using the solid colors from the stripes. I really like the way the binding looks from the back against the grey.

The bright colors in this quilt make me really happy, and the grey on the back tones the brightness down perfectly. I'm very happy with the result.

Rainbows and Golden Needles

I've been collecting ideas for a spectrum quilt for quite a while.

And I was excited about a recent blog tour for Rebecca Bryan's (of Bryan House Quilts) book Modern Rainbow.

So. many. rainbows.

On a quick trip to Joanne Fabrics the other day, I ran into a 75¢ fat quarter sale. What?! 75¢?!

So I picked up about 40 of them. :)

What am I going to make?!

First up, I plan to make some Scrappy Trip Around the world blocks to support Diana's Golden Needle. Diana is a young woman working on her Girl Scout Gold Award. She has chosen to bring awareness to foster care by making twin size quilts for teens who age out of the foster care system. She is also making baby size quilts to send back to the Russian orphanage from which she was adopted when she was a toddler.

Her original goal was to make 16 quilts to represent the 16 years she has lived in the United States, but she has gotten AMAZING support from quilters and fabric companies, so I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up with materials to make more than that. The outpouring of support has really been incredible.

I got a mailing address from Diana so that I could send a few blocks, so if anyone I know would like to contribute, I'd be happy to collect blocks and send a pile to her.

Diana has asked everyone to use the directions for Scrappy Trips from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.

After those blocks...I don't know what I'll do! I'll have to get back to my inspiration sources and come up with something awesome. Stay tuned.
